Split on a budget: food and nightlife
Where to eat?
After all that walking you'll no doubt be hungry. Luckily there's also local cuisine that you need to try, so you can cross that off your list. Split offers an abundance of possibilities for your gastronomic experience. You'll easily find a variety of different styles of restaurants with prices ranging from cheap to steep and from laid-back to fancy.
Located in the labyrinth-like narrow streets of Diocletian's Palace , affectionately called Get or ghetto, you'll find the fancier of the restaurants, with tables set along the stone passages of the palace for the full Mediterranean experience. In the evening this is where you go for the full romantic atmosphere. If you're looking for a more affordable option, you can find one of the numerous reasonably priced pizzerias and the traditional tavern or konoba places with Dalmatian-style cuisine. If, however, you're looking to eat something on the go, look for some of the famous ćevap or kebab places. After that, you might as well stop for some ice cream cones which you won't have any trouble running into randomly.
Events and parties
If you're the kind of person who delights in trying different foods and drinks all in one place or enjoys festivals and similar outdoor events, Zvoncac and Sustipan are the places you might want to check out. If you're lucky, you might happen upon a concert or festival which are frequently held there in the summertime. Or you can make your own food, bring a blanket, a frisbee, or a ball and have a picnic in the park.
If you've got a few hours to kill, a favourite pastime for the locals is sitting in cafés. We're certain you won't have any trouble finding a nice café and, taking a page from the locals, spending an excessive amount of time there while sipping your coffee.
Nightlife
As far as nightlife goes, there are a number of nightclubs along the coast near Bacvice beach, as well as in the old town centre. However, if you're looking for a more chill, hanging-out kind of party, the fishing harbour Matejuska is where all the locals meet to have fun and unwind.
Another great option is just grabbing some drinks and snacks, maybe a beach towel and a Bluetooth speaker, and heading to one of the beaches. Sitting on the beach, maybe a night swim for the more daring, is a great way to spend an evening.
